Offices run computers, lighting and climate control through the working day, exactly when solar panels are most productive. Start with a free assessment of your roof and your bills.
Offices carry banks of computers, lighting and climate control - heavy daytime users of grid electricity
A modern office building typically hosts banks of computers, lighting, and climate control systems - all to keep employees productive and comfortable. According to the UK Green Building Council, office buildings account for a large share of UK electricity use, which affects both the country's carbon footprint and the energy bills of the businesses that occupy them.
Installing solar panels is one of the main ways a business can take control of its electricity bills. Given the ongoing rise in electricity costs, investing in a renewable energy system to reduce reliance on the grid is one of the most reliable ways to bring energy costs down.
We understand that investing in solar panels for a commercial office building comes with a high upfront cost, which can be off-putting. Even so, many businesses make the switch once they weigh up the following.
The immediate impact most office buildings see from solar is a significant reduction in energy bills, with commercial installations commonly cutting a large share of daytime energy costs.
Relying solely on the National Grid exposes you to price swings caused by wider market volatility. Generating your own daytime power reduces that exposure - note that standard grid-connected solar switches off automatically in a power cut for safety, so keeping the building running through an outage needs a battery system specifically designed for backup.
Reducing emissions and investing in renewable energy marks your office out as a forward-thinking business - good for your image with clients and staff, and good for the planet.
The investment can pay back faster than you might expect. Businesses using the Smart Export Guarantee can also sell surplus electricity back to the grid, provided the system is MCS-certified - required for installations up to 50kW, with SEG covering systems up to 5MW.
Solar panels can add to a commercial property’s value, since the energy generation offsets the ongoing running costs of using the building, making it a more attractive prospect on the market.

Business Solar UK is Lead Pronto's enquiry service for commercial solar. We assess your roof and your bills, and our installation partner Solar4Business designs and installs every system, backed by warranties that protect your business for years.
We have a track record of satisfied customers across the business sector, including plenty of office buildings enjoying the benefits solar panels bring. Here's why:
There are currently three main types of commercial solar panel in use on office buildings:
The most efficient panels on the market, typically rated between 19% and 22% - useful where an office building has limited roof space.
Slightly less efficient than monocrystalline, typically 15% to 18%, but lower cost - a good balance of efficiency and price for a conventional office roof.
Offers flexibility in placement, including curved or unconventional roofs. Efficiency ratings are lower, typically 11% to 13%.
From what we've seen, an office building with conventional roof space typically opts for polycrystalline panels, which usually give a higher return on investment thanks to their lower price and respectable efficiency.
We provide bespoke system designs for every business, based upon your energy usage and rooftop availability. To give you an idea of the savings and cost of a system, below are some of our common system sizes.

Illustrative examples, not live quotations. Equipment, warranties and prices are confirmed in your proposal. All savings are based upon a solar generation yield of 850kWh/kWp installed per annum, with usage of 71.43% of solar energy generated, assuming a 24p/kWh electricity import rate (close to the DESNZ Q1 2026 UK non-domestic average of 24.14p/kWh). Savings may change year on year dependent upon weather conditions, energy prices and system degradation in line with warrantied output.

Yes. Flat roofs use a tilted mounting frame to angle the panels correctly. Your survey plans the layout around rooflights, plant and any walkways so the building stays fully usable.
Most modern commercial roofs can, but every roof is checked. The survey looks at the roof deck, the structure and the fixing method, and a structural assessment is arranged where it is needed.
In England, rooftop solar on non-domestic buildings is usually permitted development with no size cap, provided panels sit no more than 1m above a flat roof or 0.2m from a pitched roof, and are set back 1m from the edges. Listed buildings and conservation areas have extra rules. Scotland and Wales have similar rights.
Offices are heavy daytime users of electricity - computers, lighting and climate control all draw power while a solar system is generating. Your assessment models how much of that demand a system your roof can take would realistically cover, based on your own half-hourly data.
You will need your landlord’s consent, and your lease needs to run long enough to see the return. Some landlords fund the system themselves; a power purchase agreement can also work where the lease term allows.
Yes, on suitable sites. With a solar PPA, our funding partner INICIO pays for the system, which Solar4Business surveys, designs and installs. Its maintenance is covered under the agreement, and you buy the electricity it generates at an agreed rate per kWh.
Save massively on your electricity bills when you invest in solar.
